A Must-Visit Agrotourism Albania Experience – What Social Media Doesn’t Show You

Agrotourism Albania

Agrotourism Albania is more than a trend — it’s a gateway into the country’s most authentic, off-the-grid experiences. The beating heart of Albania lies in the remote, the untouched, and the forgotten.

Visiting the Land of Eagles means venturing past the capital city of Tirana, that’s for sure. Due to Albania’s geography and complicated past, even in 2025, there are many places that are kept almost entirely from the outside world.

Thankfully, with my platform, I have the power to shine a light on such places, ones that greatly deserve your attention and tourism revenue. So buckle up for one of the best-kept secrets – why you need to visit this authentic agrotourism experience in Albania.

All About Agrotourism In Albania

If you’re like me, before moving to Europe, I had no idea what Agroturism meant! Maybe this is because I grew up in a rural area, so the idea of being out in nature, growing your own food, and being around animals isn’t such a foreign concept.

On the other hand, many who grow up in urban centers don’t have these opportunities, which has created a surge in popularity for farm stays (also known as agrotourism).

Agrotourism in Albania means connecting with the country’s rural soul—staying in family-run farmhouses/guesthouses, tasting homemade raki, helping with seasonal harvests and animal care, along with experiencing traditions passed down through generations.

Farm stay in Albania - Agritourism

What makes agrotourism so special is that each stay is unique in its own right – a French farm stay will be vastly different than an Albanian agrotourism experience. From the calming natural environments, organic food specialization, and rich cultural aspects, there’s always a reason to sign up for another agrotourism stay.

The Ultimate Albanian Agrotourism Experience – Lulebore Guesthouse

Located deep in the Accursed Mountains (also known as Albanian Alps) of northern Albania, accessible only by boat, Lulebore Agrotourism experience (arranged by North Albania Alps agency) is a sustainable farm stay that combines adventure and education.

It’s truly a unique way to dive back in time, feeling what it must have been like centuries ago. Unescapable silence and star gazing with zero light pollution are things to expect when visiting the small mountain community of Lekbibaj.

Located just off Lake Komani, within Nikaj-Mertur Regional Nature Park, Lulebore is a way to escape modern-day life while immersing yourself in the authentic traditions and cuisine of Ghegeria (northern Albania).

Like many places in Albania, Lulebore Agrotourism is a family operation. It is run by a couple – the father being the doctor of the village, a mother, a grandma and a son, with nieces and nephews joining periodically as well.

Traditional Food

For me, food is always a crucial part of how much I end up enjoying my trip. At Lulebore Agrotourism, you get an up-close and personal view of how this family lives and survives by using what grows around them.

This traditional Albanian food varies greatly from what you can find in restaurants around the country since it is all sourced from their own produce. Here are a few traditional foods that you can try during your Albanian agrotourism stay.

Ferliku

Ferliku is made by slow-roasting an entire pig/goat/lamb over an open fire on a spit. This usually signifies a special occasion and is a ritual of hospitality – the process can take hours, and guests are often invited to watch and share stories.

Qervish

Qervish is a hearty village dish, typically made with cornmeal and tender pieces of lamb or goat, slow-cooked until it reaches a porridge-like consistency. This is the comforting type of meal that follows a long day of hiking or farm activities.

Supë Me Hithra

Supë me hithra (stinging nettle soup) is made from foraged stinging nettles, often cooked with rice, onions, and a touch of olive oil. It’s especially popular in spring, when the young nettle leaves are fresh, and is known for its nutritional benefits.

Fli

Traditional Albanian Food - Fli from north Albania Agrotourism experience

Fli is a bit more well-known and can be found in some restaurants, but of course, homemade will always be supreme! It is made by layering thin crepes of batter and slowly baking them over hot coals for hours. Fli is usually prepared by women in rural homes, especially in the north.

Learning Farming Practices

On the farm, there is a wide range of activities available that all need to be done, regardless of whether you and your group are present or not. This is the great part – the activities are not simply being done to entertain tourists, but out of necessity for the family’s well-being.

From learning how to make cheese and milk cows to even making honey, there’s something that will be of interest for everyone. There’s also learning how to make Raki, a traditional clear alcohol made from fruit in the Balkan region of Europe.

One of the most common is from grapes, though Lulebore does plumb too. You’ll also get to feed the chickens and ducks, and pick fresh eggs straight from the nest for breakfast! Depending on the season, some fruit picking will be involved too – wild pomegranates, cherries, apples, plums, and figs.

Adventure Activities

While you might be wondering, what can you do so deep in the wilderness? Don’t worry Lulebore has you covered! There are plenty of easy walks to do, cool places to see in the 4X4 vehicle, and even some horse trekking.

If you’re lucky, you might see wild horses or see the Upupa Comune and Woodpeckers while birdwatching. As the light fades and the village house lights slowly turn out, there is an overwhelming silence.

Even at night time, there’s still some adventure with your guide, like looking through the telescope, listening for the croaks of frogs and the distant calls of owls and other night birds.

Accommodation at Lulebore Agrotourism

Agrotourism in Albania Accommodation

An agrotourism experience in Albania isn’t about luxury but authenticity. By only having 4 rooms, the guesthouse keeps the historical integrity and limits overdevelopment in the area, which has become a serious issue in other destinations in Albania.

The setting is extremely peaceful, with just a few wolf howls now and then. Rooms are a bit rustic but serve their purpose. There is one shared bathroom per floor, so it’s shared between 4 to 5 people.
